2019 Accomplishments 

  • Initiated 2,671 recruitments.
  • Evaluated 97,738 job applications.
  • County departments hired 5,063 new employees (3,148 Regular and 1,915 Temporary).
  • Welcomed and onboarded over 1,600 employees in a single 30-day period after the County assumed operations of two community hospitals; we quickly integrated these facilities into the County of Santa Clara Health System to ensure continued availability of high-quality care.
  • Conducted the largest classification study in the history of the County, modernizing our Information Technology classifications and creating over 120 new job classifications.
  • Processed over 23,000 employee personnel transactions, covering actions such as employee leaves, transfers, retirements and hires.
  • Attended over 10 highly diverse community recruitment events.
  • Successfully placed 39 individuals into Executive Leadership positions.
  • Held 37 retiree medical enrollment sessions and prepared over 400 employees for retirement. 
  • Increased the visibility of the County as an employer of choice by partnering with LinkedIn, Indeed, Government Jobs and ZipRecruiter.
  • Facilitated contributions from more than 15,000 employees into the County’s 457 Deferred Compensation program, bringing the total plan assets to over $2.6 billion.
  • Continued the ESA Rapid Transformation initiative, adding new employee-led teams and creating two Transformation Teams; these teams composed of department managers and leaders are designed to empower and align the initiatives to achieve long-term, transformative change. 

2020 Goals 

  • Continue to implement strategies to streamline processes.
  • Collaborate and partner with County departments to create a productive, skilled and diverse workforce for efficient and effective delivery of public services.
