New County Animal Services Center Topping Off Celebration November 22

Final Steel Beam To Be Placed For New Facility Opening In 2021

What:
The County of Santa Clara is hosting a steel beam topping off celebration for a new Animal Services Center and community space. The ceremony will include the actual placement of the final steel beam, a Q&A with the construction team, and a barbecue for donors and volunteers.

Who:
Supervisor Mike Wasserman, County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors
Members of the construction team

Where:
80 Highland Ave.
San Martin, CA 95046

When:
November 22, 2019, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The ceremony will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Why:
The current shelter is a former San Martin residence that is more than 70 years-old and lacks many amenities necessary in a modern animal facility. Almost 4,000 animals are cared for each year in the current facility and the new construction will double the shelter’s size, allowing for better care from staff and volunteers. The shelter currently has a 94.3% live release rate, one of the best in the state for an all intake facility.
