TRUTH Act Community Forum Scheduled for December 10 at 6 p.m.

Annual meeting is required by law to allow local government and the public to share information and practices concerning law enforcement’s interactions with ICE

WHAT:

Santa Clara County residents are invited to participate in a community forum about a California law called the TRUTH Act and the public’s right to transparency regarding the access that local governments may provide to federal immigration agents.

Assembly Bill 2792, the Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds Act (TRUTH Act) was signed by Governor Jerry Brown on September 28, 2016 and went into effect January 1, 2017. It pertains to the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agency and its access to individuals who had an encounter with law enforcement during the previous calendar year. Since 2018, the TRUTH Act requires local governing bodies where local law enforcement has provided ICE access to an individual, to hold a community forum to receive and consider public comment.

The December 10 forum will be livestreamed on the County’s Board Agenda website. Although the County of Santa Clara government is hosting the meeting, no action will be taken on the matter. Translation in Spanish and Vietnamese will be available for those in attendance.
