Women’s Equality Day Celebration to Launch Women’s Policy Agenda for Santa Clara County

WHAT:

The County of Santa Clara Commission on the Status of Women and the Office of Women’s Policy are inviting community leaders and organizations who advocate for equality and advancement of women and girls to commemorate Women’s Equality Day.  The annual event gathers hundreds of civic leaders to celebrate women’s achievements and to highlight strategies and initiatives to improve their status. This year’s theme “From Awareness to Action,” highlights the launching of

the Women’s Policy Agenda for Santa Clara County.

WHY:

Women’s Equality Day commemorates the anniversary of women’s right to vote in the United States, addresses current challenges and acknowledges outstanding women and their accomplishments. This year’s event culminates a year of diligent work and partnerships crafted to develop the Women and Girls report. This report is the foundation for the development of the Women’s Policy Agenda for Santa Clara County, covering policy areas such as crime and violence, economic security, health and education.

About the Commission on the Status of Women

For nearly 40 years, the County of Santa Clara Commission on the Status of Women has advised the Board of Supervisors on equal participation and treatment, and other issues that affect the lives of women and girls in Santa Clara County. The Commission works with the Office of Women’s Policy and women’s organizations on joint strategic initiatives and advocate for women at all levels.
