2019 Accomplishments
- County adoption of the Voter’s Choice Act (VCA) – an exciting modernization of the way people cast a ballot that will begin with the 2020 election cycle. It means all voters will receive a Vote-by-Mail ballot or can alternatively vote at any of the new full-service Vote Centers conveniently located throughout the county.
- Acquired all-new voting equipment (the first such modernization since 2003) to enhance election security and accessibility.
- Created an Election Administration Plan – a roadmap for the VCA rollout that involved public forums and community workshops to receive feedback from county residents and partners.
- Increased outreach – had presence at hundreds of events, with bolstered efforts to engage the public about VCA.
- Formed committees to foster improvements for voters who primarily speak a language other than English, as well as seniors and those with disabilities.
- Kicked off the largest advertising campaign in the history of the ROV to best get the word out about VCA.
2020 Goals
- The ROV looks forward to the successful implementation of the VCA, as well as the new voting technology in the 2020 presidential elections.
- We anticipate the rising registration to hit the one million mark – the highest in county history – and expect turnout could also set a record.
- We continue to improve and modernize voting in Santa Clara County.
