2019 Accomplishments

  • Expanded hours to provide service at every library 7 days/week.
  • Inspired patrons through key events and services such as the Teen Battle of the Bands, the Gilroy Mini Maker Faire, and the Summer Reading Program.
  • Empowered patrons with knowledge, classes and tools, including:
    • Early Learning Readiness centers (preschool) at Gilroy and Morgan Hill Libraries.
    • STEM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).
    • Student eAccounts to 90,000 public K-12 students, providing access to the online library.
    • First library in U.S. to offer the mindfulness meditation Headspace app.
    • Passport services at three libraries.
  • Connected communities to gather, learn and enjoy programs and services including:
    • Gilroy Rise Up – providing education and support for at-risk youth and their families.
    • Lunch at the Library.
    • Provided library services at local K-12 schools.
    • Food for Fines program, which allows patrons to donate food in exchange for the forgiveness of late fees.
    • Victim services provided at the Gilroy Library #GilroyStrong. 

2020 Goals

  • Continue focus on the shift to digital: grow online collection and services, redesign website, offer instant online library ecard registration.
  • Commitment to education: offer free homework help, ESL/Conversation Club at every library, and extend the Reading Program to include family literacy.
  • Create deeper ties in the community: expand partnerships with local and County organizations.
