Sheriff's Office Encourages Women to Join Law Enforcement
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging women to pursue careers in law enforcement, joining a pledge to have 30% of its workforce comprised of women by the year 2030.
The Sheriff’s Office is proud that its percentage of female sworn officers is 17%, which is much higher than the national average of 12%, but the agency isn't satisfied.
“We encourage and empower women to be able to unleash their potential and bring their passion to this workforce,” said Thuyet Dang, director of administrative services for the Sheriff’s Office.
The push to increase women in law enforcement reflects a larger focus on diversity at the County, said Supervisor Betty Duong, who represents District 2.
“When there’s more women at the table, more women in law enforcement, more women on the dais and part of the decision-making process, we have more encompassing policies that drive better outcomes," said Duong. “More moms, more sisters, more daughters make this a better organization.”
