Feb. 1 Deadline Approaching for Second Installment of 2023-24 Annual Secured Property Taxes

The County of Santa Clara reminds property owners that it's important to pay taxes on time not only to avoid penalties but also to fund vital services that benefit the community

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. — The deadline to pay the second installment of the 2023-24 annual secured property taxes is approaching. It’s important to pay property taxes on time to avoid penalties and ensure the ongoing funding of essential services such as public health and law enforcement.

The second installment of the property tax is due Feb. 1 and becomes delinquent at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. The second installment may be paid separately only if the first installment has been paid.

(Property owners who have already paid the second installment of their property taxes may disregard this notice.)

The County of Santa Clara Department of Tax and Collections (DTAC) announced in October 2023 the availability of the annual secured Fiscal Year 2023-2024 property tax bills. These bills can be conveniently accessed, viewed, printed and paid online at www.sccdtac.org. For taxpayers who have opted for electronic copies, bills were delivered to the email address on file as of Oct. 2, 2023. For all other taxpayers, tax bills were delivered by the U.S. Postal Service.

Please note that California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 2610.5 does not relieve a property owner of the responsibility of making timely payments due to failure to receive a tax bill.

Paperless Billing
Property owners are encouraged to consider going paperless. It is an environmentally friendly and secure way to access essential property tax-related information, including assessed property values, tax bills and payment options. To opt for paperless billing, please visit www.sccassessor.org/optin.

DTAC Has Moved!
DTAC has moved to a new, state-of-the-art facility located at 110 W. Tasman Drive in San José. Community members who prefer to make property tax payments in person are invited to visit DTAC’s new location.

The Assessor’s Office Has Moved Next Door to DTAC
The Office of the Assessor joined DTAC in the move and is now located at 130 W. Tasman Drive, San José. Most assessment business can be conducted through online services, email or phone. Find more information at www.sccassessor.org. If an in-person visit is required, the new facility makes it simple to take care of assessment and tax payment tasks in one location, with easy access to ample free parking and public transportation.

Online Payments
Online payments can be made via the website at SCC Tax. Payments can be made using the online Electronic Check option (eCheck) with no additional charge.

Mailed Payments
Use the new blue envelope (formerly a lilac envelope) and installment coupon to track the payment as it makes its way through the Postal Service to its final destination:

                  Department of Tax and Collections
                  110 West Tasman Drive
                  San José, CA 95134-1700

The USPS postmark MUST be April 10, 2024, or earlier to avoid penalties. If the payment is not mailed before April 8, 2024, we recommend sending the payment by certified mail to ensure it is postmarked by April 10, 2024, to avoid penalties. Please retain proof of the postmark in case payment arrives after the due date, as the Postal Service may not postmark mail on the same day it’s deposited.

Drop Box Payments
DTAC offers a secure 24-hour drop box located to the right of the front entrance at its new location at 110 W. Tasman Drive in San José.

Partial Payments
Property owners may take advantage of the partial payment program and make multiple partial payments on this installment. Penalties will apply only to the unpaid portion of the tax after the payment deadline of April 10.
